Why disemvoweling was invented

McCain’s campaign is encouraging trolls. They’re literally giving trolls “points” for leaving pro-McCain talking points in the comments section of various blogs. Their view of the blogworld is fairly skewed, they list Glen Reynolds (Instapundit) as neither right, nor left, nor moderate, but “other” (he’s a fairly doctrinaire conservative).

This isn’t the worst idea in the world– many large companies employ trolls to get their own word out. Its just so transparent and icky that I can’t think it will do much good. Yes, this blog is a bit annoyed not to be included on the hit list.

  1. Glenn Reynolds is a libertarian, not a conservative — he is frequently in vocal disagreement with social conservatives. I consider him right-of-center because he focuses primarily on economic and foreign policy issues where he’s mainly in agreement with conservatives, but it’s not inherently unreasonable to categorize libertarians as “other”.

I still don’t like the idea of disemvowelling. If a comment is spam or if it’s an unwelcome off-topic comment, then delete it. If it’s on-topic but you don’t like the content, then leave it be and either respond to or ignore it. The only comment-mangling I could get behind would be something like inserting [In the opinion of Maniakes, this comment is a troll. Please do not feed the trolls].

  2. I see nothing wrong with disemvowelling. It’s easy enough to read through the loss of vowels (if you want to try) and there is a certain amount of entertainment in seeing trolls squeak away with their, you know, vowels cut off.

    I’m just saying.

  3. Conservatives mean for saving the traditional american family and a irrate ol conservative bird like me is getting tired of what these blasted liberals are doing them and their goons in the left-wing news
