If I have to stand over all three of you and make sure that you're on-task at every moment, I'd never have time to do the job someone hired _me_ to do. So yes, we're responsible for not paying closer attention to our hirelings, but that's an inevitable result of the human condition. If folks can't hold their elected officials accountable because they don't track what those officials do and how it effects them, then they're responsible for the problems that result. I'm bothered by how the rest of the world gets held hostage to the country's inability (or lack of desire) to elect a more reasonable governing body. It’s cliche but not unreasonable to say democracy gets you the government you deserve.
